  Therapeutic Foster Care Program

The Therapeutic Foster Care Program (TFC) at Alabama Clinical Schools (ACS) is a community based program providing interventions to boys and girls in state's custody and unable to live at home. Our foster care case workers and parents work with the children in the TFC Program to facilitate appropriate mental health treatment services in a therapeutic foster home environment. Our trained therapeutic foster care parents and staff participate in partnership with the child, his/her family, and the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) to meet the child’s individual treatment needs and work towards the child’s return to a lower level of care.

Children in the TFC Program have typically not responded successfully to less restrictive interventions or environments due to their emotional or behavioral problems. Children accepted into this program must have a 55 or greater IQ and have an Axis I DSM-V diagnosis or identified moderate emotional and/or behavioral problems warranting the structure of a Therapeutic Foster Care placement.
